                             INTRODUCTION TO TOTAL RECALL

     TOTAL RECALL is a complete, computerized learning environment designed
     to help adults learn and memorize almost any subject.  TOTAL RECALL is
     not a game or a children's educational program.  It's fast, efficient,
     and easy to use: everything is menu-driven.  TOTAL RECALL really works.
     Here's how:

     You enter everything you need to learn or memorize into TOTAL RECALL.
     It then helps you drill, review, and test on the material quickly and
     effortlessly.  TOTAL RECALL automatically keeps track of where your
     weaknesses are and gives you the most practice in those areas, thus
     saving you hours of time and work.  It helps you organize and manage
     your learning too:  you can print, edit, add, copy, merge, etc.
     Multiple users can study multiple subjects.  Files can be as large as
     your disk space will allow.

     What subjects can TOTAL RECALL help you with?  Here's a portion
     of the list:  English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Latin,
     physiology, microbiology, botany, zoology, philosophy, history, bible
     study, computer terminology, economics, social studies, sociology,
     psychology, geography, geology, political science, law, real estate,
     corporate policy, accounting, business, insurance, management, finance,
     marketing, and any subject where you have to learn or memorize terms,
     words, ideas, concepts, names, places, or dates.  It can even help you
     raise your scores in the GRE, LSAT, GMAT, SAT, or ACT.

     If you've ever had to study a foreign language or memorize a lot of
     words, terms, phrases, facts, acronyms, formulas, or dates you've
     probably had to do it the hard way:  First, you had to make up scores
     of index cards. Then you had to spend hours shuffling, sorting,
     grouping, and spreading them all over your study until you were lost in
     confusion.  You've probably enlisted unwilling friends to flash the
     cards at you or test you until you became friendless.  Wouldn't it be
     nice if there was a better way to memorize?   Well, now there is with
     TOTAL RECALL.

     You probably wonder how people wrote anything before word processors.
     After you've used TOTAL RECALL you will wonder how people learned
     anything before TOTAL RECALL.  All you need is an IBM compatible
     computer (or access to one) with at least 512K memory, one or two floppy
     drives (hard disk recommended but not necessary), and any kind of
     monitor.  TOTAL RECALL is menu-driven and easy to use.  The printed
     manual which comes with the Registered Version of TOTAL RECALL should
     cover any function or operation that you may need to know about.  It is,
     however, necessary to stress a few points in order to ensure maximum
     benefit to the user from this product.

     The most important difference between TOTAL RECALL and other learning
     programs is that TOTAL RECALL keeps track of where your weaknesses are.
     This feature alone will save you an untold number of hours of work and

     frustration when learning or memorizing your subjects.  The way you
     learn is first of all by being forced to condense and organize your
     material during the ADD option (this will also force you to understand
     the material).  Then TEST will let you know how well you know the
     material.  DRILL is the single most important activity in TOTAL RECALL.
     DRILL will drill you on those terms that you need the most help with.
     You should spend most of your time in the DRILL option.   Finally,
     REVIEW, will ensure that you have covered all the terms you need to
     know.

     All these activities (REVIEW, TEST, and DRILL) keep track of which terms
     you know and which you don't know, but only DRILL actually uses that
     information.   TEST chooses terms at random, and REVIEW chooses terms
     sequentially as you entered them.


                                  INSTALLATION

     Users with 2 floppy disk drives only (feasible but not recommended):

     1) Copy RECALL.EXE to a system disk.  (To create a system disk, format
        a disk with FORMAT A:/S).
     2) Copy RECALL.EXE to the newly created disk.
     3) Insert the new disk into drive A: and type RECALL to start.
     4) Insert a blank formatted disk into drive B:
     5) Whenever the program asks you for a path, type B:

     Users with a hard disk drive:

     1) Create a CONFIG.SYS file with the following two statements:
           FILES = 20
           BUFFERS = 8
     2) If you have a CGA monitor, you will have "snow" on your screen unless
        you include the following statement in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file:

          SET CLIPPER= S1;    (type exactly as shown).

     3) Make sure that COMMAND.COM is in the DOS path or in the top
        directory.
     4) If you use memory resident programs or TSRs you may have problems
        running TOTAL RECALL due to its large memory requirements or
        other conflicts.   If so, do not load any memory resident programs
        at boot-up.
     5) Create a working directory, get into that directory, and copy all
        TOTAL RECALL files to that directory:

                C> MD RECALL
                C> CD RECALL
                C> COPY A:*.* *.*
     6) Run the program by typing RECALL
     7) From here on everything is menu-driven and self-explanatory.   Make

        menu selections by a) using arrow keys to move highlight bar to
        choice and pressing RETURN or b) pressing the first letter of desired
        choice.
     8) You can customize the colors and the sound from the CUSTOM MENU. Your
        new set-up will be saved automatically to disk.

     Note that [^W] means press the key marked CTRL together with W.

     In order to begin using the example Subject Files, the files must first
     be "freshened".  When you select a Subject File from the STUDY MENU, you
     will be asked whether you wish to FRESHEN the file.  Press "Y".  (You
     can also FRESHEN the files one by one from the MANAGE MENU.)  You will
     not be able to use the example files until you FRESHEN them.  You can
     also FRESHEN Subject Files when their corresponding index files (.NX*)
     become damaged or corrupted, or whenever you wish to study a Subject
     File after a long absence, or if you wish to study someone else's
     Subject File.

                               THE SHAREWARE CONCEPT

                              REGISTRATION VS SHAREWARE

     There are two versions of TOTAL RECALL 1.3: the Registered Version,
     which is distributed as TR.EXE, and the Shareware Version, which is
     distributed as RECALL.EXE.  The Registered Version is the version that
     you get when you purchase, pay for, and register TOTAL RECALL.  IT IS
     ILLEGAL FOR YOU TO COPY, SELL, OR DISTRIBUTE THE REGISTERED VERSION (see
     the license agreement below).

     The Shareware Version differs in that it only allows for 50 entries per
     file and limits the number of learning sessions. You may copy,
     distribute, upload or download to Bulletin Boards via modem the
     Shareware Version if you follow these restrictions:

     1) You must not modify, delete or add to the object code or the number
        of existing files.
     2) You may not receive any compensation or money for the copy you are
        distributing except as follows:

        a) Users' groups, and other shareware distributors may charge a
           nominal fee (less than $10) for expenses and handling while
           distributing the Shareware Version of TOTAL RECALL.  (Payment of
           such fees cannot be applied towards the registration of TOTAL
           RECALL).
        b) Bulletin Boards may charge nominal access fees as long as the fees
           are not exclusively applied to TOTAL RECALL.   Only the Shareware
           Version (RECALL.EXE) can be allowed on Bulletin Boards.  Under no
           circumstances should the Registered Version (TR.EXE) be allowed
           on any Bulletin Board.

     Both the Registered Version and the Shareware Version of TOTAL RECALL
     are copyrighted and fully protected by all applicable laws.  Neither
     version is free.  The Shareware Version can be used for a trial period
     of no more than 15 (fifteen) days.  If you like the Shareware Version,
     you are required to send in the included Registration Form along with
     the required sum.  You are not only permitted to copy and distribute the
     Shareware Version but are encouraged to do so.  ALL COMMERCIAL SALES
     MUST FIRST BE APPROVED IN WRITING BY ZOFT SYSTEMS.


                          LIMITATIONS OF REMEDIES AND LIABILITY

     Under no circumstances shall Zoft Systems, or any of its program
     developers, or any other of its employees, be liable to you for any
     damages, claims or losses whatsoever, including but not limited to any
     claims for lost profits, lost savings or other special, incidental or
     consequential damages arising out of the use or inability to use the
     program regardless of the circumstances.

         available for small fees: $5.00 for 1 Subject File, or $3.00/file
         for 2 or more files, plus $3.00 shipping and handling.  (Planned
         Subject Files are Real Estate, Legal Terms, Biology, Medicine,
         Economics, History, Business, a much expanded English Vocabulary,
         and many more.)
